The bus tour begins in Potsdam with a tour through the retrospective Annemirl Bauer: A Rupture in the World led by the exhibition’s curator, Marie Gerbaulet together with journalist and author Carolin Würfel. With nearly 150 paintings, drawings, collages, and objects, the exhibition offers a comprehensive overview of more than three decades of the artist's work. The works show an artist who directly linked personal experiences and social conflicts and, in doing so, consistently searched for forms of resistance and self-determination.  

The bus tour then heads to the Annemirl Bauer Haus in Fläming, Brandenburg—a place where the artist lived and worked for many years. Numerous works were created here, including paintings and large-scale murals in which the immediate environs and nature have left their traces. Amrei Bauer—the artist’s daughter, estate administrator, and founding director of the Annemirl Bauer Haus—will offer glimpses into her mother’s life and work as well as the history of this special place. Today, the house serves as a central hub for the preservation, research, and promotion of Annemirl Bauer’s work. 

The bus tour ends with a tour of the exhibition Dreaming: Annemirl Bauer and Bärbel Bohley, the last exhibition in the five-part Berlin exhibition series Publik Machen by ifa – Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen, at Galerie im Turm in Berlin led by curators Susanne Weiß and Sandra Teitge together with author, theorist and curator Elisa R. Linn. The exhibition speaks to the constellation of connections between two exceptional artists and political activists. Both of whom fought for a better socialism. The exhibition, which focuses on the role of art in times of political upheaval, brings the works of Annemirl Bauer and Bärbel Bohley into dialogue with works by Christian Borchert, Jürgen Graetz, Barbara Klemm, and Elske Rosenfeld.  

Between the different stops, the exhibition’s curators share insights, highlight key themes, and invite the group to discuss their impressions of each venue together—turning the bus trip into a space for conversation and reflection. 

The work of Annemirl Bauer continues to raise questions about political stances and individual self-empowerment. She was consistently denied a comprehensive institutional presentation during her lifetime. It is to the credit of her daughter Amrei Bauer that her body of work has been largely preserved and maintained to this day.  

The bus tour invites you to discover the work from different perspectives and to exchange ideas about the significance of her practice: How can the work of Annemirl Bauer be considered today? How do art and political resistance come together? What kinds of connections exist between Bauer’s artistic practice and the place where she lived and worked for so long?
