This combined tour brings together two exhibitions that offer different perspectives on art and alternative culture in the GDR. The retrospective on Annemirl Bauer presents paintings, drawings, collages, and objects spanning more than three decades and highlights central themes in her work: gender roles, social power structures, human rights, environmental destruction, and political resistance. Her works bear witness to an uncompromising commitment to social justice and her critical stance toward the repression of the SED dictatorship.

The cabinet exhibition on Wilfriede Maaß focuses on her ceramics studio in East Berlin, which became an important gathering place for the alternative art scene in the 1980s. Painted ceramics, paintings from the Hasso Plattner Collection, and selected loans tell the story of a place of artistic exchange and collaboration across generations.

Together, both exhibitions offer perspectives on artistic self-assertion, community, and creative freedom in the GDR.
