For the third anniversary of DAS MINSK, we look back at the building’s history and bring the special connection between art and culinary culture to life.
On this occasion, artist, chef, and pastry chef Chelsea Turowsky is preparing a special birthday cake. Together we want to celebrate, raise a toast, and share. First come, first serve: Everyone is warmly invited to enjoy a piece of the birthday cake!
In addition, two films will be shown in the foyer – Die Verwandlung des MINSK [The Transformation of DAS MINSK] and an interview between Anna Schneider and Karl-Heinz Birkholz, the architect of the former ‘Minsk’ – which invite reflection on the history and architecture of the building.
Chelsea Turowsky (New York,1989) is an American artist working in food and text.
Turowsky’s practice treats memory as map - with subjects of inheritance, collective history, and evidence as compass. Turowsky is a kind of translator; she often compares the plate to the page, the execution of each of her menus not dissimilar from her written poetry. Flavor is a language.
Turowsky is based in Berlin, with a career as a professional chef and gastronomic consultant. Assuming residencies at various restaurants and geographies, she focuses on Omakase style dining and private events, often in unconventional atmospheres. Guests might say her work is sanctuarylike, natural, with a mysterious edge reminiscent of dreams.
