A STUDY DAY ON ANNEMIRL BAUER

Musical Accompaniment: Florian Hein
In “I Wasn’t Born to Be Satisfied (Annemirl Bauer, 1987)” which draws its title from a quotation by Annemirl Bauer and is taken from the transcript of a conversation between Horst Kolodziej and Annemirl Bauer at the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR (Verband Bildender Künstler der DDR), 29 May 1984, the author Olga Hohmann and the musician Florian Hein associatively and musically explore Annemirl Bauer’s work. How does resistance always also reveal a kind of tenderness? How can revolt take place unless it is grounded in the pleasurable, the intuitive, and, above all, humor? In a 20-minute collage of cello music, song, and text, motifs from Annemirl Bauer’s works are taken up without being explained or fully resolved. Decidedly unacademic in style, a new poetic puzzle assembles itself out of connections that no sooner find each other than they dissolve again.
The performance is included in the price of the study day.
Please also reserve a free seat for the performance.
