Drawing from the indigenous cultures of Northern Argentina, Gabriel Chaile has developed a sculptural and social practice that shifts between form and function, crafted from traditional, elemental materials like adobe, mud and metal. An important strand of his work is an ever-growing series of sculptures that also function as ovens.
Brenda, 2022 is named after Chaile’s sister and is decorated with stylized facial elements reminiscent of pre-Columbian artefacts from his native region of Tucumán. Beyond a sculptural presence, Brenda invites people to gather, cook, bake bread, share food and participate in communal life through culinary experience. Brenda has been activated in both artistic and public contexts, including at the Biennale Gherdëina: Persones Persons, 2022, and during the creative community project Arcadia in Leeuwarden, 2025.
During the summer season of 2026, Brenda will be activated on Saturdays from 4 to 8pm and additional special occasions, providing pizza and baked snacks for the visitors at DAS MINSK.
