Sarah Ama Duah is a German-Ghanaian artist. She completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in fashion design at HAW Hamburg and subsequently studied fine art at Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), focusing on performance and sculpture and completing her studies as a Meisterschülerin.
 

Duah’s multidisciplinary practice encompasses sculpture, performance, clothing, and the body. Her work is characterized by a figurative, narrative approach. She views sculptural exploration as both a form and a means of investigating and materializing the intersections between grand historical narratives and Afro-diasporic biographies, including her own family history. Her artistic language is shaped by her background in fashion design and her strong interest in material processes. Through material-oriented artistic research and her intensive engagement with wax, plaster, silicone, and latex, Duah combines her craft-based expertise in fashion with sculptural methods. She artistically examines processes of assimilation, fragmentation, and resistance. At the center of her practice is the materialization of reflections: she creates tangible artistic scenarios and figurative objects to make Afro-diasporic cultures of memory visible and expand upon them. In doing so, she explores and articulates how Afro-diasporic identities navigate space, reshape it, and resist.
