What is Mail Art? How did artists in the GDR send their messages in a creative way? And what personal signs and symbols might play a role in this?
During the summer vacation, we invite children aged 8 and above to a workshop at DAS MINSK focusing on Mail Art—an art movement that created an international exchange through artistically designed postcards, letters, and stamps sent by post.
Together with experienced art educators, we will go on an exploration tour through the current exhibition IN DIALOGUE – Hasso Plattner Collection: Art from the GDR. The concepts of mail art, developed, for example, by the artist Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt, will serve as stimuli and inspiration for the participants’ own ideas.
They will then design and carve their own stamps and try them out on postcards. The result will be small, creative works of art with a personal stamp motif that can be taken home or sent to friends.
Note:
The workshop is suitable for children aged 8 to 14 and includes a short break. Snacks and drinks may be brought along.
