25th Brandenburg Festival of New Music

May 8–18, 2025

The intersonanzen New Music Festival celebrates its 25th anniversary, reflecting on the past while looking ahead. Under the theme transreal, the festival will open its doors for eleven days, from May 8 to May 18, 2025. Featuring outstanding contemporary music at new and significant art venues in Potsdam – DAS MINSK Kunsthaus in Potsdam, Museum Barberini, and museum FLUXUS+ – the festival continues its dialogue with other art forms. Additionally, a special concert will take place at Palais Lichtenau.

Contemporary chamber music meets visual art. With a focus on string quartets (Neo, Kairos, Sonar) and the chamber orchestra ART Ensemble NRW, as well as other top international ensembles in a total of 20 concerts, performances, and installations, the festival fosters interaction with visual artists. Spaces are shaped: musical, sonic, real, surreal, virtual – transreal.

The latest technological advancements in new media and the revolutionization of work processes through AI are creating unprecedented opportunities—and risks. This raises fresh questions about individual perspectives: Does this lead to a new personal reality, virtuality, or even a parallel world?

In a panel discussion led by Prof. Dr. Ulrike Liedtke, composers, artists, and experts—including current Musikfonds fellows—will share their experiences with AI tools and the media of today and tomorrow, engaging in a thought-provoking debate.

To mark the anniversary edition, a documentary on 25 years of intersonanzen will be presented.

The opening will take place on May 8, 2025, starting at 7 pm at DAS MINSK Kunsthaus in Potsdam.
