In the “New Insights” tours, artists guide visitors to their works in the exhibition Soft Power, providing insights into their creative processes and discussing the thematic links between art and society with experts. The discussion tours will be moderated by exhibition curator Daniel Milnes.
The artist Willem de Rooij constantly examines the production, contextualization and interpretation of images in various media forms. In his textile works, he pays particular attention to color and the possibilities of modulating it by interweaving different threads.
For the exhibited work Blacks, 2012, de Rooij used ten shades of black, which combine to form a flickering mass of material and simultaneously expand and undermine the concept of the monochrome image. The works are produced on historical hand looms in close collaboration with Ulla Schünemann in the Geltow hand weaving mill near Potsdam. In the joint tour, the weaver and the artist will talk about their work, give an insight into their production processes and their collaboration and report on the history of the Geltow hand-weaving mill.
