Rebellinnen – Fotografie. Underground. DDR.
April 16, 2025, 7 PM
To accompany the current exhibition IN DIALOGUE - Hasso Plattner Collection: Art from the GDR, DAS MINSK is showing the documentary film REBELLINNEN - FOTOGRAFIE. UNDERGROUND. GDR.
Tina Bara, Cornelia Schleime and Gabriele Stötzer are three artists who were active in the underground art scene in East Berlin, Erfurt and Dresden in the 1970s and 1980s. They work either on their own or with colleagues and friends or in an artists' collective. Their art always has a direct or indirect biographical background. In a touching way, their pictures tell of their being at the mercy of a system that oppresses many young creative people.
Pamela Meyer-Arndt's film offers a new perspective on the art and lives of these three fascinating women.
The wounds suffered by the three rebels as a result of spying, threats, lies and betrayal have not yet fully healed. Many of the images shown in the film are only now being discovered, brought to light and celebrated internationally.
The two artists Cornelia Schleime and Gabriele Stötzer are currently represented in the exhibition IN DIALOGUE - Hasso Plattner Collection: Art from the GDR.
A studio talk accompanying the exhibition with Gabriele Stötzer and the curator Daniel Milnes has also been published as a podcast.
The event ticket includes a visit to the exhibition from 5 PM.
