At the center of Gulnur Mukazhanova's artistic practice is the exploration and questioning of traditional cultural values, identities, rituals of her Kazakh heritage, and the nomadic roots of her ancestors. Felting, which is likely one of the oldest textile processing techniques, is an essential aspect of Gulnur Mukazhanova’s practice. Anthropologists believe that shepherds developed this technique more than 8,000 years ago. The production process resembles a meditative exercise in which the artist constantly endeavors to perfect the technique and its profound meaning.

In her workshop, Mukazhanova will give a guided tour of her work in the exhibition Soft Power and offer insight into the production of a felt carpet. Afterwards, the participants create a colorful carpet together and can take part of the collective felting work with them.

This collective exercise provides insight into the artistic approach and working practice of Gulnur Mukazhanova , whose work is exhibited in the exhibition Soft Power (Moment of the Present #26, 2021).

The workshop at MINSK will be led by Gulnur Mukazhanova and will take place outside.
