This thematic tour introduces two female artists whose work is permanently exhibited at DAS MINSK. Works by Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt and Hedwig Bollhagen are an integral part of the building’s architecture and can be seen both indoors and outdoors. Both artists employ patterns, abstract forms, and the repetition of particular motifs as design features. 

HerStory additionally draws attention to under-recognized female artists and tells their stories, which are often closely interwoven with the biographies of other artists. Compared to the sculptures by the prominent sculptor and painter Wolfgang Mattheuer, which are on permanent display at DAS MINSK, the drawings and prints by Ursula Mattheuer-Neustädt are less well known, even though she was the one who founded the Mattheuer Foundation in Leipzig to preserve the oeuvre of the artist couple. The tour focuses on her life and work. 

The tour also explores the legacy of Jewish Bauhaus artist Margarete Heymann-Löbenstein. Her internationally renowned Haël workshops for artistic ceramics in Brandenburg were acquired in the 1930s by ceramic artist Hedwig Bollhagen at a price well below their true value. It traces two closely intertwined lives and a problematic legacy, whose history the tour examines in greater detail. 

Artist and art educator Birgit Szepanski will lead the thematic tour.
