Hinter den Fenstern [Behind the Windows], a documentary student film by director Petra Tschörtner (1958–2012) produced at the Babelsberg Film and Television Academy of the GDR, takes a look behind the facades of the Plattenbau. The film centers on three couples, all around 30 years old, who live in a high-rise building in Potsdam. Through intimate observations, the film tells the story of coming together and drifting apart, of desires for emancipation and inner conflict, revealing how everyday life unfolds between closeness, hope, and unspoken feelings.
Free admission. German with English subtitles.
Introduction and concluding discussion with Helke Misselwitz and Claus Löser.
The film received two awards at the 1984 West German Short Film Festival in Oberhausen. Its recent digitization and restoration were supported by the Film Heritage Funding Program and were generously provided for this event by the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF.
